Italy: Guelfi Firenze sign former Austin Peay running back Ahmaad Tanner

The Guelfi Firenze of the Italian Football League have signed running back former division one Ahmaad Tanner.

Tanner replaces running back Xavier Johnson who recently opted for Mexico’s Monterrey Fundidores. Tanner joins the Italian semi-finalist coached by former Baylor Bears (NCAA Big 12) head coach Art Briles.

The 6’ 205 pound Tanner comes to Europe after spending five seasons at Austin Peay University (NCAA D1 FCS). The Dalton, Georgia native ran for 2,529 yards and 28 touchdowns while adding another 276 yards and two scores as a receiver. Tanner’s 2021 senior season tallied 801 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Austin Peay product projects to be a key part of the Art Briles offense led by Italian quarterback Andrea Fimiani. The Guelfi have added additional division one talent as defensive back Dejion Lynch (Southeastern Louisiana NCAA Div. 1 FCS), and former Dartmouth University (NCAA Div. 1 FCS) quarterback and H-back Jared Gerbino have been signed for the upcoming season.
