The Cannes Iron Mask (3-0) will play host to the Marseille Blue Stars (1-1-1), Sunday, March 9 as the French D1 Elite league winds up its fifth weekend of play.

Cannes looked impressive in their league opener, pounding the Nice Dauphins 41-14. They then got by the Grizzlys Catalans in a thriller 22-21 before edging the Aix Argonautes 35-34.

Marseille played to a 14-14 tie with the Grizzlys Catalans before succumbing to the Toulouse Ours 15-14. They finally got their first win, a 27-0 shutout of the Nice Dauphins two weeks ago.

Cannes is led by quarterback Olivier Roy who has thrown for 447 yards and six touchdowns with Timothe Labarriere as his main target. Labarriere has caught 10 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown. The Iron Mask ground game is formidable with running back Yanis Polin leading the league having rushed for 420 yards and seven touchdowns on 49 carries.

Blue Stars quarterback Brandon Gwinner has thrown for 552 yards and five touchdowns in three games but has also tossed five picks. Pedro Rosa has caught 16 of those passes for 224 yards and a score to lead Marseille.

The edge in this game goes to the Iron Mask who have home field advantage. The Cannes ground game will likely be the key factor.
