NFL Season Overview – September 2022

The long-awaited 2022 NFL season is finally here and the fans are anxious to see whether their team will start the season at a top level. In the off-season, the teams showed that the upcoming season will be very unpredictable and that’s got nothing to do with the overtime rule changes for the playoffs.

Looking at the current NFL odds, we can also determine that even the bookmakers aren’t fully convinced about the teams’ odds of winning in the first few games of the season. In this article, we will make an overview of the first month of the 2022 NFL season.

When Did the Season Start and What’s Happened So Far?

All off-season matches ended on the 28th of August to give the players and the teams’ staff a little break before the start of the new season, which took place on the 9th of September.

The 2022 NFL season was opened by last season’s champions Los Angeles Rams, which played against the Buffalo Bills. In this game, the Rams suffered a major defeat with a score of 10-31.

But, in the following two games, the Los Angeles Rams managed to bounce back and win in both games against the Atlanta Falcons and the Arizona Cardinals. They are still far away from their best form from last season, but there is still time for the team to get better.

The Buffalo Bills have also crushed the Tennessee Titans with a score of 41-7 but failed to win against the Miami Dolphins just by 2 points.

But, we gotta be fair, the Miami Dolphins have started the season with style, as they have 3 out of 3 wins so far and are sitting on top of the AFC standings.

As for the NFC standings, on top, we have the Philadelphia Eagles, which also have 3 out of 3 wins so far. Their first win was against the Detroit Lions and that was a very close game, as the Eagles won the game with only 3 points ahead.

In the second and third games, the Eagles played against the Minnesota Vikings and the Washington Commanders, which they won by a big margin.

The other NFL teams are still looking to find their best form and keep the winning streaks as long as possible. Possibly the most unlucky and out-of-form teams in September were the Houston Texans and the Las Vegas Raiders, which haven’t won a single game so far.

Who Is the Ultimate Favourite for Winning the Super Bowl?

As we said at the beginning, the 2022 NFL season will be very unpredictable, judging by the off-season games and the teams’ September results and performances. But still, the oddsmakers have come up with their own predictions about the teams that are most likely to win this season’s Super Bowl.

The absolute favourite for winning the 2022/23 Super Bowl is the Buffalo Bills with +500 odds for winning.

Last season, the Bills lost against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional playoffs after the game went to overtime.

This season, as we analyzed in the previous section, the Buffalo Bills have won against the current champions Los Angeles Rams and against the Tennesse Titans. But, they’ve failed to win against the Miami Dolphins, which lay on top of the AFC standings.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the second favourite for winning this year’s Super Bowl with +700 odds for winning it.

With the legend Tom Brady in the team, it is no wonder that the Buccaneers are so high on the list of potential winners. Last season, Tampa Bay has been knocked out of the playoffs in the Divisional playoffs by the LA Rams.

The Buccaneers had a dreadful off-season where they lost all three games but managed to start pretty decently in the season. So fat they have 2 wins and only one loss and are slowly getting into their well-known form.

Third on the list of favourites for winning the Super Bowl are the Kansas City Chiefs with +750 winning odds. The Chiefs were pretty decent in the off-season games and have started the new season with 2 wins out of 3 games, which is also very good at this stage.

If they manage to keep their good form throughout the season, then they can be considered a serious contender for winning the 2022/23 Super Bowl.
