Potsdam Royals head coach Michael Vogt named GFL Coach of the Year

Michael Vogt, the head coach of the Potsdam Royals, has been honored as the German Football League’s Coach of the Year for 2025. This recognition comes after an impressive season where Vogt led the Royals to their third consecutive championship title, solidifying their status as a dominant force in German football.

A journey of success
Vogt has played a crucial role in the Royals’ ascent, guiding them to four finals and securing three straight championships in just 20 years. His journey with the team began in 2005 as a player, but a serious injury shifted his focus to coaching. Since taking the reins in 2007, he has become a beloved figure in the GFL, known for his dedication and passion for the sport.

Emphasizing teamwork
What truly sets Vogt apart is his emphasis on teamwork and unity. He believes that the Royals’ success stems from the strong relationships among players and staff. “The team is the success—our cohesion makes us strong,” he often emphasizes, showcasing his commitment to fostering a collaborative environment. Under his leadership, the Royals have developed into one of Europe’s top football teams.

Award presentation
Vogt will receive his award from AFVD President Fuad Merdanovic on November 6 during a special event at the Fan Village of the Indianapolis Colts in Berlin, coinciding with the NFL Berlin Game. This celebration not only honors Vogt’s accomplishments but also highlights the growing recognition of coaching excellence in the league.

Looking ahead, the GFL plans to expand its awards program in 2026 to include honors for the best players and coaches, ensuring that the hard work and dedication of individuals like Vogt continue to be celebrated. This initiative promises to elevate the recognition of talent in German American football, making future seasons even more exciting.
