RIP Ruslan Sapozhnik – 1990-2022

It is with deep regret that we report the death of Vinnytsia Wolves lineman and Ukrainian soldier Ruslan Sapozhnik.
The 32-year-old Sapozhnik was killed in action on October 17 in the fighting in Lyman in the Donetsk region in southeastern Ukraine. The Wolves are members of the Ukrainian American Football League.
His coach, Dale Heffron, who remained in the Ukraine to provide help and support until recently remembered him fondly:
“Just an outstanding young man…a joy to be around.”
Many more American football players turned soldiers are engaged in the battle in the Ukraine.
Another former Wolves player, Igor Boyko, lost his life earlier this year fighting for his country.
