The ONEFA quarterfinals in Mexico produced fireworks as all four winners flexed their muscles leaving no doubt that the best four teams remain to play in the semifinals.
UANL Autenticos Tigres 38 – UVM Linces 21
The Tigres, led by a superb performance from quarterback Jesús Mata Charles, extended their unbeaten streak to 8-0 by defeating the Linces 38-21 at the Universidad del Valle de Mexico (UVM). Running back Joan Medina Tavitas rushed for more than 100 yards in the second half alone to help the Tigres move on to the ONEFA semifinals .
Omar Cojulun Delgado scored all three touchdowns for the Linces in a losing cause.
UNAM Pumas 48 Univ. anahuac Cancún Leones 14
The UNAM Pumas scored early and often in the first half against the Univ. anahuac Cancún Leones taking a 38-14 lead at halftime and then cruising to a 48-14 win to earn a berth in the semifinals.
The Pumas scored on their first five offensive possessions with Allan Rosado scoring the first two touchdowns while the Pumas defense recorded two first half interceptions as the Leones had no answer for the Pumas physical play.
UAdeC Lobos 28 – Acatlán Pumas 20
With a superb performance from running back Oscar Delgado de la Rosa who scored all four touchdowns, the UAdeC Lobos defeated the Acatlán Pumas 28-20 to advance to the ONEFA semifinals. De la Rosa scored a touchdown in each quarter to pace the Lobos who were forced to come from behind a 17-14 halftime Pumas lead. However, De la Rosa returned the opening kickoff of the second half 102 yards for a touchdowns and the Lobos surged ahead 21-17 and never looked back.
UACH Águilas 16 – UAEM Potros Salvajes 9
The UACH Águilas, with quarterback Randall Antonio Perez Mendoza using his short passing attack, downed the UAEM Potros Salvajes 16-9 in a tight defensive battle. Mendoza threw two touchdown passes in the win to help move on to the semifinals.
The Potros had two golden opportunities early on but the Águilas defense stepped up to stuff two drives inside the five yard line forcing the Potros to kick two field goals instead of scoring touchdowns. That eight point swing was the margin of victory.
