Berlin Rebels sign former Bowling Green, Boston College QB Darius Wade

The Berlin Rebels will enter the 2021 German Football League season with a new quarterback as the team has announced the signing of former Boston College and Bowling Green QB Darius Wade.

The 25 year old, 6’1″, 220 pound Wade from Middletown, Delaware, spent the 2019 season as a redshirt senior playing for Bowling Green. Playing in seven games, making five starts, he threw for 751 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74 of 130 pass attempts with three interceptions. He was named MAC (Mid-American Conference) East Offensive Player of the Week against Morgan State after completing 22-of-32 pass attempts for 253 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 42 yards on four carries.  While at Boston College from 2014-2017, he played in 25 games. He led Boston College to victories over Louisville, Syracuse and Connecticut in 2017 and started the team’s Pinstripe Bowl game against Iowa. On the season in 2017, he completed 62 percent of his passes (62-of-103) for 736 yards.

Wade admits he is excited about the opportunity to play in Germany for the Rebels:

“Without being familiar with Germany and how to get connected with coaches across the pond, I used Europlayers.com to get connected. I was able to get in contact with coach Mandel and we had a chance to discuss the great opportunity that was available. I was then offered a contract and was able to sign over the Christmas holidays. I am very excited for this opportunity to be a part of this great organization and community within Berlin. I fully expect our team to compete with everyone and make a run for the championship come the end of the season. Aside from football, I am very eager to explore what Berlin and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf have to offer. I know this is a unique opportunity that not many Americans are able or willing to take but I am more than ready and excited to take on this new opportunity.”
