Great Britain Development Squad too strong for IFAF newcomer Georgia

Georgia made its historic IFAF Men’s European Championships debut on Sunday but had no answer to the relentless offense of the Great Britain Development Team in a 61-0 loss at the Mukhianis Rugby Complex in Tbilisi.

With both teams new to Level 2 in the 2026/27 tournament, Georgia gained valuable experience in their continued development, while Great Britain, whose performance team plays at Level 1, blooded a squad with an average age of 22.5 years.

Great Britain dominates offensively

Quarterback Louis Benzey threw three touchdowns with his Bristol Aztecs teammate Oliver Luck reeling in a pair and one in the hands of Zion Anjorin. Late in the game Reece Aris took over under center and tossed a scoring pass to his fellow East Kilbride Pirates receiver Arran McDonald. Great Britain scored four rushing touchdowns with Simon Olafia, Ben Crabbe, Mike Sop and Jaedon Wilson all finding the end zone

Defense completes the shutout

Kicker Jack Lewis made two of three field goals and seven extra points, while on defense Callum Twine came up with an interception of Lasha Alavidze as Georgia pushed for a first score in the fourth quarter.

Spain awaits both teams

GB returns to action against Spain at the Nick Newbold Stadium in Coventry next Sunday, October 18 at 12pm local time (1pm CET). Two weeks from now Georgia makes its first-ever road trip, heading to the Municipal Football Field in Jaca to take on Spain on Saturday, October 24 (kickoff 5pm CET).
