Germany’s Berlin Rebels Sign QB James Harris

The Berlin Rebels have signed quarterback James Harris for the 2017 season.

The 25 year old 6’2″, 220 lb Harris played for three years at the California University of Pennsylvania (NCAA Div. II) where he amassed 7,349 yards passing and 56 touchdowns. He is a gifted athlete and actually started his collegiate career at Wake Forest on a baseball scholarship where he played for three years before transferring to Cal to play football.

The Rebels were the surprise of the German Football League in 2016 advancing to the playoffs and defeating the Braunshweig New Yorker Lions during the regular season. Head coach Kim Kuci had originally intended to bring James Harris in for the 2016 season but a CFL tryout prevented it.

We asked James about his decision to play in Europe and for the Berlin Rebels.

American Football International: How did you find out about playing in Europe?

James Harris: I found out just by other players talking about it. I have only heard great things about the league.

AFI: How did you find your way to the Berlin Rebels?

Harris: Found my way to Berlin because of coach k. He has talked to me a lot and they are a top team to play for.

AFI: Is this your first time playing abroad and what are you expecting?

Harris: It is my first time stepping foot in Europe. So I am excited about playing and experience a new country.

AFI: You play baseball as well. Why did you opt for football?

Harris: Opted for football after feeling like baseball wasn’t the right route for me during college. I wanted to change it up and I played football in high school.

AFI: What do you bring to the team?

Harris: I want to bring to the team a solid leadership role and also help win as many games as possible.

AFI: Have you had a chance to work on learning German?

Harris: I’m learning a few new words since hanging around the team. But have not studied the language. I plan on learning as much as possible!
