Nordic Storm overwhelm Frankfurt Galaxy 47-9, set up showdown with Munich Ravens

The Nordic Storm reinforced their status as one of the leading championship contenders in the European Football Alliance with a commanding 47-9 road victory over the Frankfurt Galaxy Sunday afternoon.

Quarterback Jadrian Clark threw for 440 yards and five touchdowns as the Storm generated 568 yards of offense and improved to 8-1. Frankfurt dropped to 3-6 following the loss. The official attendance at Frankfurt’s BBBank Arena was 5,125.

Storm build early lead

The Storm wasted little time taking control. Clark completed four passes on the opening possession, finishing the five-play, 67-yard drive with a 38-yard touchdown strike to Simon Fons.

Frankfurt’s first drive ended when Maceo Beard-Aigret intercepted new Galaxy quarterback Zach Calzada and returned the ball 12 yards to the Storm 43. The Storm converted the takeaway into another touchdown, with Clark finding Roberto Miranda for 29 yards on fourth down before Glen Toonga powered across from one yard out. The missed extra point left the Storm ahead 13-0.

Clark and the Storm extended the advantage during the second quarter with an eight-play, 87-yard march. Brendan Beaulieu caught passes of 30 and 26 yards on consecutive plays, the second taking him into the end zone for a 19-0 lead.

Frankfurt’s defense created two late opportunities when Enrico Chagoya and Dominique Mambo intercepted Clark, but the Galaxy offense was unable to capitalize fully. After Mambo’s return gave Frankfurt possession at the Storm 10 with 28 seconds remaining, the Storm defense pushed the Galaxy backward. Ryan Rimmler salvaged three points with a 37-yard field goal five seconds before halftime.

The Storm consequently went into the break leading 19-3 despite committing nine first-half penalties and turning the ball over twice.

Defense stands tall

Frankfurt received two more excellent scoring opportunities during a scoreless third quarter. A Toonga fumble gave the Galaxy possession at the Storm 35, and Calzada quickly connected with Brevia Easton for 25 yards. Frankfurt reached the one-yard line but was pushed back before Calzada’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete.

Moments later, Dominique Mambo forced Fons to fumble after a reception, giving Frankfurt the ball near midfield. Calzada completed three passes to Paul Kavadia-Lenhardt as the Galaxy advanced to the Storm one for a second time. Once again, however, the Storm defense refused to break. Calzada was sacked and then threw three consecutive incompletions, leaving Frankfurt without points from either red-zone opportunity.

Storm finish in style

Starting from their own three-yard line, the Storm responded with the game’s decisive possession. The Storm overcame several penalties during a 13-play, 97-yard drive that consumed more than eight minutes. Facing third-and-24, Clark delivered a 43-yard touchdown pass to Fons. Toonga ran in the two-point conversion, stretching the lead to 27-3 with 8:58 remaining.

Calzada answered with his best sequence of the afternoon. Following a 10-yard completion, he hit Tyler Foster in stride for a 48-yard touchdown. The two-point attempt failed, leaving Frankfurt trailing 27-9.

Any hopes of a Galaxy comeback disappeared when Clark directed another scoring drive. The Storm converted third-and-15 from their own 25 before Toonga added runs of 15 and 12 yards. Clark completed the 70-yard march with a five-yard touchdown pass to Beaulieu and found him again for the two-point conversion.

The Storm defense then added another takeaway. Ludvig Myren recovered a Gerald Ameln fumble and returned it to the Frankfurt seven. Four plays later, Clark connected with offensive lineman Isaac Moore for a seven-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal, giving the visitors a 41-9 advantage.

The Storm added one final score on the last play of the game. Luke Glenna blocked Rimmler’s 58-yard field-goal attempt and recovered the ball before Jumilson Moreira Ferreira finished the return in the end zone, completing a 28-point fourth quarter.

Numbers tell the story

Clark finished 32 of 47 for 440 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Beaulieu caught 11 passes for 149 yards and two scores, while Fons recorded four receptions for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Toonga supplied 108 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries while catching nine passes for another 74 yards.

Replacing the scapegoated Ethan Garbers, Calzada completed 14 of 35 passes for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception in his Frankfurt debut. Kavadia-Lenhardt led the Galaxy with eight catches for 66 yards, while Foster caught three passes for 66 yards and the team’s only touchdown.

The Storm defense held Frankfurt to 198 total yards, including only 20 rushing yards, and recorded seven sacks. Hugo Dyrendahl led the Storm with 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks, while David Tawake registered two sacks. Frankfurt converted only two of 14 third downs and failed on both of its fourth-down attempts.

Nordic Storm will close the regular season against the undefeated Munich Ravens in a battle for first place. Frankfurt, meanwhile, faces a decisive meeting with Prague in its regular-season finale.
