Gun charges dismissed against Rasheed Walker

New Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Rasheed Walker shared during his introductory press conference that gun possession charges filed against him in January have been dismissed, allowing him to focus fully on his new role protecting the quarterback’s blindside.

Airport incident resolved
Walker was arrested on January 23 by the Port Authority Police at LaGuardia Airport in New York after attempting to check an unloaded handgun without proper documentation. He had been charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, but the case was resolved after Walker completed a pretrial diversion program, with the charges dismissed contingent on no further legal issues over the next six months.

A key addition for Carolina
The 26-year-old lineman started 16 games last season for the Green Bay Packers and brings much-needed experience to a Panthers offensive line facing uncertainty. With left tackle Ikem Ekwonu expected to miss significant time after suffering a patellar tendon injury, Carolina signed Walker to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million.

General manager Dan Morgan confirmed Walker was always part of the team’s contingency plan, and the tackle himself said he’s ready to step in and help the team improve. With the legal matter behind him, Walker can now concentrate on shoring up the Panthers’ protection.
