Dresden Monarchs add Canadian defensive lineman Max von Muehldorfer
The Dresden Monarchs have strengthened their defensive front for the current German Football League season, signing Canadian defensive lineman Max von Muehldorfer in a move designed to add depth, strength, and flexibility to the team’s defense.
The 23-year-old arrives in Dresden with an impressive athletic background and a reputation as a powerful presence in the middle of the defensive line.
The signing comes as the Monarchs have opened the 2026 GFL season with three straight victories, giving the club early momentum as they look to remain among the league’s top contenders.
Impressive athletic pedigree
Von Muehldorfer comes from Calgary, Canada, where he built a resume that extends well beyond football.
The 6-foot-2, 285-pound lineman won a gold medal in weightlifting at the 2023 Pan American Junior Games and is a four-time Canadian junior champion. He also holds the third-best shot put mark in Canadian history at 19.5 meters.
His strength has become one of his defining traits. At the CFL Combine, he posted 34 repetitions on the bench press at 100 kilograms, helping put him on the radar of professional organizations.
Strong football background
Since 2020, von Muehldorfer has played for Western University in Canada, appearing in 31 games.
During that span, he recorded 64 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.
His performances also earned him an opportunity with the Calgary Stampeders, where he participated in training camp during the 2025 preseason.
According to Dresden defensive coordinator Martin Schmidt, the newcomer brings both strength and versatility to the defensive front.
Ready for the next challenge
For von Muehldorfer, the decision to join the Monarchs was an easy one.
After hearing positive things about both the city and the organization, he embraced the opportunity to continue his career in Germany and contribute to one of the country’s most established football programs.
The Dresden Monarchs are hoping his combination of size, athleticism, and pass-rushing ability will provide an immediate boost as the season continues.
With another talented piece now added to the roster, Dresden has reinforced a defense that is aiming to remain among the top units in the German Football League.
