HAMILTON — The Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats write the final regular season chapter of the QEW rivalry on OK Tire Labour Day Weekend.

The season series is deadlocked at 1-1, with Hamilton securing a 24-23 win in Week 7 and Toronto picking up a 39-20 victory in Week 12.

At 4-8, the Tiger-Cats sit just two points behind the 5-6 Argonauts for second in the East Division.

Here’s three keys to victory for both teams ahead of Monday’s 2:30 p.m. ET kickoff, which can be watched on TSN or RDS2 in Canada, on CBSSN in the U.S., and on CFL+ internationally.

TORONTO ARGONAUTS

1. KEEP AWAY

The Argos offence will want to stay on the field longer than the 23:28 they did against Saskatchewan a week ago. Getting more out of the run game is one way for it to happen. Running back Isaiah Smith will look to repeat the 99-yard game he put up the last time these two teams met.

2. LEMON-AID AND A DEFENSIVE STAND

With Hamilton coming into the week having scored the second-fewest points of any team, Toronto’s defence needs to ensure this isn’t the time it gets going. Veteran Shawn Lemon will try to exploit a Ticats line that has allowed 24 sacks, while defensive back James Ceasar aims to close space on Kenny Lawler, Kiondré Smith and Keric Wheatfall.

3. GAME OF ADJUSTMENTS

Quarterback Chad Kelly has thrown for 611 yards and four touchdowns against the Ticats this season, but seeing a defence of Hamilton’s calibre three times in 14 weeks presents its own unique set of challenges. Who makes faster adjustments is the ultimate question.

1. LEADING THE OFFENCE

One of quarterback Tre Ford’s best games came against the Argos in Week 12 when he threw for 356 yards and rushed for an additional 33. He’ll try to channel that performance to get his team a victory and prove he’s the man for the job going forward.

2. SECOND AND OFF THE FIELD

As the Argos try to extend drives, the Ticats will be attempting to get off the field more efficiently than they did last week against the Stampeders. Defensive linemen Miles Fox, Julian Howsare and Mario Kendricks Jr. have to find their way into the pocket to disrupt Kelly’s timing.

3. NEW LOOK IN THE BACKFIELD

Running back Nahree Biggins comes off the reserve roster to try to provide a spark in the run game. It will be Biggins’ debut, and what better time to make a statement than on OK Tire Labour Day Weekend?

NEED TO KNOW:

Kelly is 5-3 against the Ticats. He’s coming off his third 400+-passing-yard showing. He’s 1-1 in Labour Day Classic matchups.
Ford is a career 2-2 against Toronto. He’s 0-1 in LDCs.
Hamilton has allowed the second-fewest 30+ yard completions (13), while Toronto has completed the second-most (23).
