Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams charged in Canadian firearms investigation

Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Isaiah Adams is facing multiple firearms-related charges in Canada following an investigation by the Durham Regional Police Service‘s Guns and Gangs Unit, casting uncertainty over his status as the NFL club prepares to open training camp.

The Cardinals acknowledged they are aware of the situation but declined to comment further, stating they would respect the legal process.

Investigation leads to charges

According to Durham Regional Police, the investigation concluded last week after officers arrested three suspects before a fourth suspect surrendered to police on Sunday. Adams, a native of Pickering, Ontario, was identified as that fourth suspect.

Police said the investigation began with a male suspect believed to be involved in drug trafficking and in possession of a firearm. Officers arrested two suspects in Ajax, where they allegedly seized approximately three kilograms of suspected fentanyl during a search of a vehicle.

Investigators later executed a search warrant at a residence in Pickering, where they reported finding a loaded firearm that had been stolen from Georgia, a prohibited overcapacity magazine and a replica Uzi.

Multiple firearms offences alleged

Adams has been charged with possession of a firearm obtained by crime, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a prohibited device.

Police emphasized that the allegations have not been proven in court. All four individuals charged in the investigation were held for a bail hearing.

The Cardinals released a brief statement after the charges became public.

“We are aware of the situation involving Isaiah Adams. Out of respect for the process, we will refrain from commenting further at this time.”

NFL future uncertain

Adams was selected by the Cardinals with the 71st overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing collegiately at Wilfrid Laurier University, Garden City Community College, and the University of Illinois.

The 26-year-old offensive lineman has appeared in 32 regular-season games over his first two NFL seasons, making 16 starts, including 11 during the 2025 campaign.

The charges come just as Arizona players are scheduled to report for training camp, leaving questions surrounding Adams’ availability while the legal process moves forward. Authorities have stressed that all allegations remain before the courts and have not been proven.
