Around the Continent: Roger’s Corner

After five games played in the Serbian league, Vukovi Belgrade sits comfortably atop the standings after handing second place Imperatori niŠ a 49-0 pasting.  The Novi Sad Dukes pounded the Forestlanders 42-14 to remain in the third, while the fourth-place Wild Boars beat the Belgrade Blue Dragons 30-0.  Two weeks  remain in the Serbian season with the semifinals starting on June 14.

As mentioned last week, Spain will crown a new champion in 2014 as defending champion the L’Hospitalet Pioners were defeated in semifinal play by the Badalona Dracs 38-20. It will be the first time in five years that the Pioners will not be defending their title. In the other semi-final the Valencia Firebats downed Osos Rivas from Madrid 22-12. Valencia and Badalona will face each other for the championship – The LNFA Bowl – on June 15.

No games were played in Sweden as Sweden played in the European American Football Championships in Austria. The league will resume play June 13.

The two top teams in the Swiss league, the Calanda Broncos and the Basel Gladiators seem to be on a course to meet in the Swiss final in early July.  Basel humbled Winterthur 72-28 to remain first in the league while Calanda defeated Lucerne 56-33. Basel’s offense has scored 349 points by far tops in Switzerland.

We do our utmost to keep up with all the American football being played throughout Europe, but we are bound to miss something. Please let us know if we do and also ideas and comments on how to improve. Send your comments to:  [email protected].
