Braunschweig New Yorker Lions extend head coach Troy Tomlin through the 2025 season

The Braunschweig New Yorker Lions of the German Football League have re-signed the most successful head coach in their history by extending Troy Tomlin’s contract through the 2025 season.

The legendary coach of one of the most historic teams in GFL history began his Lions‘ career as a defensive coordinator in 1994 where he would help the team win three German Bowl championships from 1997-1999 as well as a Eurobowl before taking over as the head coach in 2001. As a first time head coach, Tomlin’s team was dominant enough to make it to the German Bowl four years in a row but fell short (2001-2004).

Tomlin rejoined the Lions in 2013 after coaching at Westminster College and used his experience to create a dynasty in the German Football League taking his team to a win-loss-tie record of 115-16-5 since his return. In his second go-around in Braunschweig, he led his team to four straight German Bowls (2013-2016) and continued dominance in 2015, winning four consecutive Eurobowls (2015-2018).

After winning the German Bowl in 2019, Tomlin and the Lions aim to get back on track and get back to where they once were. Their head coach’s three year extension will give them more experience going forward and more momentum after coming off of a 6-3-2 record in the 2022 season.
