‘Ljubljana Silverhawks Defeat the Highflying Vukovi Without Imports’

[dropcap]L[/dropcap]jubljana Silverhawks won the first game of Central European Football League season (Sportklub CEFL) against current champions the from Belgrade , all without their American import players!

Box score: Ljubljana Silverhawks – Beograd Vukovi: 15 – 6 (2-0, 6-6, 0-0, 7-0)

Both teams started the match weakened: Silverhawks started their season without imports from the USA, while Vukovi played without standouts Washington, Josovič and Vitorovič.Boris Goricki (9) - Jakus

The beginning of the game was dictated by defense as the Silverhawks forced the Vukovi deep into their own territory and came away with a safety as the the Vukovi QB was brought down in the endzone.

Early in the second quarter, the Vukovi offense had their only scoring drive in the game. Rutherford scored on a QB sneak. The PAT was blocked, but the Silverhawks defense was penalized. Vukovi then tried a 2-point conversion, but were unsuccessful.

The Silverhawks’ offense was then was successfully led by Matej Musič, Matic Tomše and Eugen Sumič, who scored on QB sneak after few long runs from Gregor Črepinšek. The PAT was unsuccessful.

In second half the Silverhawks defense allowed only few short passes, while the Silverhawks offensive came together as the team for Ljubljana put together a couple of first downs.

The match was decided in last quarter, where the Silverhawks’ good defensive work paid off, as Sandi Holub returned an interception all the way touchdown. The PAT was good.

Head coach Rok Štamcar said after the major win over Vukovi:

“Today it would be unjust to expose a single player. Everyone who played today left his hearth on the field and this is what decided this match. I’m proud on my players!”

Ljubljana Silverhawks were supported by couple of hundred fans who supported their team loud during whole game.
