CFL Preseason Recap: Ottawa REDBLACKS defeat Montreal Alouettes 27-12
In a solid preseason performance, the Ottawa REDBLACKS (1-0) topped the Montreal Alouettes (0-1) 27-12 at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. The REDBLACKS showcased their offensive prowess and strong defense, leading wire-to-wire in this matchup.
Strong Start for Ottawa
The game began with a bang as Jake Maier connected with Keelan White for a 12-yard touchdown on the opening drive, putting Ottawa up 7-0. The REDBLACKS continued to build momentum, with Maier finding White again for a 4-yard touchdown early in the second quarter, extending the lead to 14-0. Paul Geelen added a 40-yard field goal, giving Ottawa a 17-4 advantage at halftime.
Montreal’s Struggles
The Alouettes struggled to find their rhythm, managing only a field goal in the first half. Quarterback Dustin Crum completed 15 of 20 passes for 130 yards but couldn’t find the end zone until late in the game. Shomari Lawrence scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown in the final minute, but it was too little, too late.
Fourth Quarter Action
In the fourth quarter, Geelen kicked a 26-yard field goal, and Bryson Barnes added a 9-yard rushing touchdown to seal the victory for Ottawa. Despite outgaining the REDBLACKS in rushing yards, the Alouettes couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, finishing the game with two single points from missed field goals.
