CFL Week 18: Playoff races heat up as Lions visit Argos, Bombers face Alouettes

With four weeks remaining in the regular season, the 2026 CFL playoff picture is beginning to take shape — but there is still plenty left to settle.

The BC Lions visit the Toronto Argonauts in a matchup between two of the league’s hottest teams, while the Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders collide in a crucial West Division battle.

Week 18 opens Friday with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats visiting the Ottawa REDBLACKS, followed by Calgary at Saskatchewan. Saturday features BC at Toronto before the Winnipeg Blue Bombers head to Montreal.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-11) at Ottawa REDBLACKS (0-14)

There may be no playoff berth at stake Friday night, but neither team is ready to simply play out the schedule.

The Tiger-Cats were eliminated despite pushing the West-leading Edmonton Elks to overtime last week and will look to build on one of their stronger recent performances.

The REDBLACKS, meanwhile, are still searching for that elusive first victory. Ottawa has come painfully close in consecutive games against Calgary, including a 40-38 loss decided by Rene Paredes’ 62-yard field goal.

For Ryan Dinwiddie’s team, four opportunities remain to avoid a winless season.

Calgary Stampeders (7-8) at Saskatchewan Roughriders (8-7)

Now things get serious.

The Stampeders have climbed back into the West playoff race with consecutive victories over Ottawa and suddenly sit just two points behind Saskatchewan.

The Roughriders have their own concerns after being overtaken by BC for second place and a potential home playoff date.

With the standings packed tightly behind Edmonton, this is effectively a four-point game. A Calgary victory would pull the Stamps level with the Riders, while Saskatchewan can create some breathing room with a win.

BC Lions (8-6) at Toronto Argonauts (9-6)

This one has all the ingredients to steal the weekend.

The Lions have won six of their last seven, while the Argonauts enter riding a four-game winning streak and have won five of six.

Toronto has also been perfect at BMO Field, setting up a fascinating test against one of the CFL’s most explosive offenses.

Nathan Rourke enters after earning Week 17 Player of the Week honors and will try to keep BC’s surge rolling. The Argos, meanwhile, continue to chase the top of the East.

Two hot teams. Two dangerous offenses. Something has to give.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers (7-7) at Montreal Alouettes (11-3)

The Alouettes return from their bye with the CFL’s best record and a perfect 7-0 mark at home.

Winnipeg arrives facing a much different challenge.

Quarterback Zach Collaros has been placed on the six-game injured list, leaving Dru Brown to take over the offense as the Blue Bombers fight for their playoff position.

Waiting for him is a Montreal team that has yet to lose at home.

For Winnipeg, stealing one in Montreal would be enormous. For the Alouettes, Week 18 offers another chance to tighten their grip on the East with the postseason rapidly approaching.
