CFL: Winnipeg Blue Bombers sign German WR Timothy Knuettel

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League signed Global receiver Timothy Knuettel. The German pass catcher will join the first-place Blue Bombers practice squad with only two weeks remaining in the regular season, as Winnipeg looks to win their third straight Grey Cup in November.

Knuettel caught 57 passes for 688 yards and seven touchdowns this past season as a member of the Rhein Fire in the European League of Football. The 6’2″ receiver was a key piece of former San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula’s team as a go-to option for the Fire’s offense on third downs.

Knuettel previously drew interest from CFL teams as an invite to Germany’s CFL Global Combine. In 2021, he had 55 catches for 701 receiving yards earning himself an All-Star bid as a member of the Leipzig Kings. In 2019, Knuettel put up 566 yards and six touchdowns as a member of the Potsdam Royals of the German Football League.

The European veteran has experience in North America, playing college football at Seton Hill University (NCAA D2) recording 41 catches for 444 yards in 2017. The 29-year-old also played at Modesto Junior College earning 1st team All-State honors before joining the Seton Hill Griffins.
