Rashee Rice released from jail following parole violation, runs from media to avoid questions

Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice was released from Dallas County Jail on Tuesday following a 30-day sentence for violating his parole. Rice was recorded as he left jail, though ran from the media.

Rice turned and flashed a smile before breaking into a run.

Rice underwent surgery on his knee prior to his jail sentence, and was reportedly allowed to visit Parkland Hospital for rehab while he was in jail. Rice did not appear to be hindered much by the injury as he fled from media members Tuesday.

Due to his jail sentence, Rice was forced to miss Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp, which wrapped last Thursday. The team expects Rice to be back soon, with head coach Andy Reid saying Rice will be “back here and working,” per Fox 4 News in Kansas City.

The Chiefs expect Rice to be ready by the time training camp begins in late July.

Rice was on probation following a 2024 multi-vehicle crash. He was reportedly driving the speeding Lamborghini that caused the crash and eventually pleaded guilty to two felonies as a result of the incident. The NFL handed Rice a six-game suspension ahead of the 2025 NFL season for his actions.

Rice was expected to have a normal offseason, but a reported positive test for marijuana resulted in the wideout violating his probation. Because of that, he had to serve a mandatory 30-day jail sentence.

Rice, 26, is coming off a promising third season in the NFL, in which he caught 53 passes for 571 yards and five scores in eight games. When on the field, Rice has been a reliable, short-yardage target for Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

A knee injury and a suspension have limited Rice over the past two seasons, with the wideout playing in just 12 games over that period.
