Colts become first team in NFL history to score on first 10 possessions of a season

Well, this is unexpected.
On the heels of a sterling offensive effort in a Week 1 blowout of the Miami Dolphins, the Indianapolis Colts opened Sunday’s 29-28 win over the Denver Broncos with three scores on their first three possessions.
Combined with seven scores on seven possessions in last week’s 33-8 win over the Dolphins, the Colts have opened the NFL season with scores on each of their first 10 possessions. That’s an NFL record.
Per the league, Indianapolis is the first team in league history to score on each of its first 10 possessions to start the season.
The Colts have also yet to punt this season after not punting against the Broncos. Per ESPN they’re the first team in NFL history to have zero punts through their first two games of the season.
Sunday’s hot start helped the Colts to a stunning walk-off win when a penalty gave kicker Spencer Shrader a second look at a game-winning field goal after he missed the first from 60 yards. He connected from 45 yards with no time on the clock to secure the win.
This is a Colts team that was projected to struggle under first-year quarterback Daniel Jones, who flamed out as a first-round draft pick with the New York Giants, who released him midseason in 2024 after five-plus seasons of mostly struggling.
But Indianapolis is thus far a picture of efficiency with Jones under center, who’s off to the best start of his career. Jones completed 22-of-29 passes for 272 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers in last week’s win over Miami. He added 26 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in that game.
On Sunday he led the Colts to field goals on their first two possessions. He then capped the third Colts drive with a quarterback sneak for a touchdown to give Indianapolis at 13-7 lead.
By halftime, Jones had posted a career-high 236 first-half passing yards. He finished Sunday having completed 23-of-34 passes for 316 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers in addition to his touchdown on the ground.
While the Colts feasted in Week 1 against a questionable Dolphins defense, their offense was humming early Sunday against a Broncos defense that projects among the league’s best.
