Czech Republic: Znojmo Knights roll past Brno Sígrs behind dominant defensive effort

The Znojmo Knights (9-1) closed out the Czech Snapbacks League regular season in style, defeating the Brno Sígrs (2-8) 42-10 as their defense repeatedly created big plays and set the tone from the opening minutes.

Defense gets the party started

Even with second place and a home semifinal already secured, the Knights showed no signs of easing off.

The scoring began when Charun Yakhyaev intercepted a pass and returned it 23 yards for a touchdown. The early defensive score gave Znojmo immediate momentum, and the offense quickly followed.

Quarterback Volodymyr Hrynkiv connected with Zachary DeNike for another touchdown as the Knights built a comfortable lead in front of their home crowd.

Knights stay in control

The Znojmo defense struck again in the third quarter. Maximilian Morawetz intercepted Ondřej Skoupý and returned the ball to the end zone for another defensive touchdown.

Meanwhile, Igor Mašlanka added a 6-yard touchdown run as the Knights stretched their advantage to 28-0 entering the final quarter.

The Sígrs finally got on the board when Kryštof Doležal converted a field goal, but the outcome was already firmly in Znojmo’s hands.

Strong finish seals victory

The Knights continued to pile on points late in the game. David Galko scored on a 1-yard touchdown run before Hrynkiv delivered one of the highlights of the afternoon, finding Deni Kadrle on a 43-yard touchdown pass.

The lone touchdown for Brno came when Richard Poláček hauled in a 35-yard pass from Skoupý.

In the end, Znojmo showcased the balance that has made it one of the league’s top teams all season. The offense delivered its share of big plays, but it was the defense that stole the spotlight with two interception-return touchdowns in a convincing 42-10 victory.
