Czech Snapbacks League: Znojmo Knights earn shutout win over Ostrava Steelers
The Znojmo Knights (3-1) shut out the Ostrava Steelers (0-4) with a decisive 31-0 victory at home in the Czech Snapbacks League. The Knights had been determined to bounce back after losing to the Vysocina Gladiators a week ago and showcased their dominance throughout the game.
Knights strike first
The Knights entered the game as clear favorites, and they quickly set the tone. After the Steelers’ defense managed to stop the Knights on their first drive, Znojmo responded with a bang. Quarterback Volodymyr Hrynkiv connected with receiver Zachary DeNike for a stunning 63-yard touchdown, putting the Knights on the board early.
Defensive battles
As the first quarter turned into the second, the Knights looked to extend their lead, but an interception by Petr Telnar halted their momentum in the red zone. However, Ostrava were forced to punt from their own end zone shortly after, allowing DeNike to haul in the punt and return it to the 5-yard line. Hrynkiv then punched the ball into the end zone on the very next play, increasing the Knights’ lead.
Second half surge
The Steelers finally made it into the Knights’ territory before halftime, but their drive stalled when the Znojmo defense held strong on fourth down. The second half began poorly for Ostrava, as a fumbled kickoff return by Marek Kustrzyński gave the Knights excellent field position. Hrynkiv capitalized by throwing a touchdown pass to Jakub Čermák, extending the lead to 21-0.
Knights seal the win
Despite a few defensive hiccups, the Knights continued to dominate. After another interception by Telnar, the Znojmo capitalized on their field position with a field goal from Oldřich Helebrant. In the final moments, DeNike caught his second touchdown pass of the game, solidifying the Knights‘ victory at 31-0.
Znojmo proved their status as favorites, while the Steelers will need to regroup after another tough loss.
