Dacia Vienna Vikings sign Colorado Mesa University QB Eystin Salum for 2021 season

The Dacia Vienna Vikings have announced the signing of Colorado Mesa University’s (NCAA Div. II) Eystin Salum as their quarterback for the 2021 season.

The 28 year old, 6’1″, 185 pound Salum from Denver, Colorado played 41 games for the Mavericks over his four year career throwing for a total 5,672 yards and 45 touchdowns while rushing for 2,374 yards and another 28 scores. He led his team to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) title for the third time in a row in 2017 and was named RMAC Offensive Player Of The Year.

He had a tryout with the Denver Broncos and signed to play with the Green Bay Blizzard indoor pro team in 2020 before the season was canceled due to the pandemic.

When asked to describe himself as a quarterback, Salum pointed to his versatility:

“I would call myself a ‘triple threat’,” he said. “I can win with my arm from the pocket, I can win with my legs if a play breaks down/extend it, and I can win with my mental knowledge of the game. I think a great QB get the offenses the best result from each play, sometimes that’s making the big play and sometimes it’s making the most pedestrian simple play.”

Salum admits that he knew about the reputation of the Vikings well before signing and he sees it as an enormous opportunity:

“Actually, the first time I heard about the Vienna Vikings was at the end of 2018 when I was contacted and recruited by teams from overseas. Later, a former teammate of mine, Dustin Rivas, signed to play in Vienna. Basically, I signed with the Vikings because I believe this experience will grow me as a player and as a person. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I felt it was the right decision for all areas of my life. The Vikings are a “winning” organization with many championship titles and it is an honor to be part of this successful traditional team.”

The Austrian Football League season kicks off March 27.
