Danube Dragons sign Austria’s top passing QB, Chad Jeffries, for 3rd straight season

The Danube Dragons from Austria have re-signed the top passing quarterback in the Austrian Football League, Chad Jeffries, for the 2020 season.

This will be Jeffries’s third straight season with Danube. This past year, in helping the Dragons to a 6-4 record and a semifinal appearance, he threw for a league-leading 2,824 yards and 32 touchdowns with the second-highest quarterback rating in the AFL. He also rushed for 824 yards, good for sixth among all rushers in the league. In the semifinals, Jeffries threw for 318 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-43 loss to the eventual champions, the Swarco Raiders.

He finished as the second-leading passer in the AFL in 2018 after throwing for 3,173 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushing for 650 and another three touchdowns. He led his team to a 6-4 record helping them reach the Austrian semifinals, recording their best record since 2010.

In 2017, Jeffries helped the Marburg Mercenaries return to respectability in the German Football League throwing for 3,045 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for another 305 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games. He was the second-leading passer in the GFL in terms of average passing yards per game with 276.8, helping the Mercenaries to an 8-6 record and a return to the GFL playoffs for the first time in three years.

The 6’2″, 220 lb, 25-year-old Jeffries  began his college career with the San Diego Aztecs in California and later moved to Azusa Pacific University (NCAA Div. II). At Azusa, Jeffries threw for 3,714 yards and 25 touchdowns in his three seasons there while rushing for 352 yards. In 2014,
