Danish Champs, the Triangle Razorbacks Sign Veteran QB Reed Gottula

Reigning Danish champions, the Triangle Razorbacks, have signed veteran quarterback Reed Gottula for the 2017 season.

The Razorbacks won their seventh Danish title in 2016 and second in a row.

The 34 year old Gottula (6’1″, 215 lb) played for Fort Hays (NCAA Div II) before quarterbacking the Bern Grizzlies to the Swiss championship in 2007. Since then he has played for the Hamburg Eagles in Germany, won the Norwegian title with the Oslo Vikings (2011) and also played and served as the head coach for the AFC Show and Lura Bulls in Norway, played for Finland’s Sipoo Bulldogs and served as offensive coordinator for Albany High School in Albany, Missouri.

He has gained a reputation as a coach and a leader over the years and the Lura Bulls rated him one of the top two imports to ever play for the team.

Signing a veteran at quarterback is a departure for the Razorbacks. Normally the team signs quarterbacks fresh from college but Triangle’s new head coach Sebastian Fandert is taking a different approach:

“We tried to go a slightly different route and pick a player with lots of experience and good leadership skills.”

The club is looking long term and sees Gottula as an extension of the coaching staff, hopefully for more than one year.

Fandert:

“Now we have a year to look at each other, but basically we are interested in a longer period with the same quarterback. It is the most important position on the team, and so continuity is extremely important.”

Gottula is definitely looking forward to the upcoming season:

“I am very excited to sign with the Razorbacks, I am excited to play and be a part of years of winning tradition. Denmark is a beautiful country. Everybody I have talked to in the club has been very professional, I am looking forward to working with Coach Fandert and the Razorback coaching staff. I am excited to contribute what I can to win games. I look forward to competing in games as well as the process of becoming a better team through practice and training.”
