The Dresden Monarchs have officially staked their claim as the largest American football club in Europe, announcing a record-breaking membership of 1,309 in December 2025—a milestone that underscores their massive growth and community impact.
A number with meaning
This impressive figure represents more than just quantity—it reflects the club’s deep roots and expanding influence. Of the 1,309 members, 420 are children and young people, signaling a strong foundation for the future. Jörg Dreßler, Managing Director of the Monarchs, emphasized the significance of this achievement, stating, “This number represents all the Monarchs who are active in the many different teams, who bring this club to life, and who make it a second home for many.” The club’s commitment to development and community engagement has clearly resonated throughout Saxony and beyond.
Europe’s football flagship
After thorough research, the Monarchs confirmed that no other American football club on the continent boasts a larger membership. This distinction highlights not only the team’s on-field success in the German Football League (GFL) but also its off-field presence as a central hub for the sport. Christian Piwarz, President of the American Football Association of Saxony (AFVS), praised the club’s role in driving regional growth, noting the recent promotion of the Leipzig Lions to GFL2 and the emergence of new teams in areas like Görlitz and the Ore Mountains.

During the 2025 season, the club’s digital content—including photos, videos, and infographics—surpassed 30 million views across Instagram and Facebook, marking a 100 percent increase in engagement.
