ELF: Milano Seamen extend DB Marquise Manning

The Milano Seamen announced that they have re-signed defensive back Marquise Manning for the 2024 European League of Football season.

The Seamen first signed the 6’1, 195 pound Manning a year ago, before the team’s debut season in the ELF.  In eight games for Milano in 2023, Manning recorded 41 total tackles, three interceptions, 13 pass breakups, and a forced fumble.  He also spent some time as a kick and punter returner.  Manning was a bright spot on a terrible defense, as the team ranked dead last in rushing yards allowed and passing yards allowed.  The team, though, was impressed enough by Manning’s play to bring him back for this season.

Originally from Bayonne, New Jersey, in the New York City metropolitan area, Manning played collegiately at Washburn University in Kansas.  His best season came in his senior campaign of 2021, in which he recorded 27 total tackles, three interceptions, and a blocked kick.  His 2023 season was the first professional season of his career, and he will look to build off of it in 2024.

Manning is the second American to be signed by Milano for the 2024 season, as he is joined by running back Patrick Carr. The Seamen have found their quarterback in Zach Bronkhorst and now need one more import player on defense.  The team has a new coach for 2024 in Jim Ward, who spent last season as the defensive coordinator of the Helvetic Guards.  Milano is hoping that with a defensive-minded head coach and the re-signing of arguably their best defensive player in Manning, their defense will be much better than it was last year.
