ELF: Tirol Raiders sign former Super Bowl winning coach Jim Hermann as new HC

The Tirol Raiders of the European League of Football have announced the signing of former New York Giants Super Bowl winning LB coach Jim Hermann as their new head coach.

The Raiders finished second in the ELF Central Conference with a record of 8-4.

The 62 year old Hermann won the Super Bowl in 2012 with the New York Giants where he served as linebackers coach from 2009 to 2015.

Most recently, he served as defensive coordinator for the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL (2023) under head coach Hines Ward.

Hermann was born in Hollywood, California but grew up in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. He played linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines (1980-82) and was an assistant coach for the team from 1985-1996. From 1997 to 2005 he was the defensive coordinator for the Wolverines under head coach Lloyd Carr and in 1997 he won the Broyles Award, the award given to the best assistant coach in college football. The Wolverines were declared the national champions by the Associated Press that year after defeating Washington State in the 1998 Rose Bowl.

In 2006 he moved to the NFL, where he initially worked on Eric Mangini’s staff as linebacker coach for the New York Jets (2006-2008). From 2009 to 2015, Herrmann was linebackers coach for the New York Giants under Tom Coughlin where, as stated, the team defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI (2012)

He signed as linebackers coach for the Indianapolis Colts in 2016 spending two seasons there under head coach Chuck Pagano. Hermann served as associate head coach and linebackers coach at Bowling Green University in 2019 and then took over as defensive coordinator for the New York Guardians of the XFL in 2020. His first stint in Europe was as associate head coach and linebacker coach of the Lazio Ducks in the Italian Football League (2021-2022).
