Final weekend in Spain saw three playoff bound teams dominate.
Spain’s LNFA Serie A lowered the curtain on the regular season this past weekend with the playoffs now set to start on April 21.
All four of the top teams in the league – the Badalona Dracs, L’Hospitalet Pioners, Las Rozas Black Demons and Osos Rivas – were in action and three looked impressive as they get prepared for the playoffs which kick off April 21.
Eastern Conference
Badalona Dracs 41 – L’Hospitalet Pioners 0
The Badalona Dracs wound up the regular season undefeated with their eighth straight win after pummeling the second place L’Hospitalet Pioners 41-0.
Mexican quarterback Marco Durán was outstanding scoring one touchdown on the ground and tossing four scoring passes to wide receivers Eric Ladero (2), Alpha Jalloh and David Martínez. Backup Pau Berglund added a scoring pass to Iván Caballero. The Dracs will take on the defending champion Las Rozas Black Demons in their semifinal matchup. The Black Demons finished second in the Western Conference.
Zaragoza Hurricanes 30 – Mallorca Voltors 8
The Hurricanes were on the road but still had no trouble in taking down Mallorca in their final regular season game whipping the islanders 30-8. Zaragoza, led by Mexican quarterback Edgar Ulloa, who threw four touchdown passes to Aaron David (2), Luis Sánchez and Sergio Montaner dominated the game. Mario Barberán, with a “field-goal”, rounded off the victory. Late in the game, Mallorca found the end zone with running back Zahir Wilder scoring and Callum Davidson adding the 2-point conversion.
With the win, Zaragoza finished the season with a 4-4 record and out of the playoffs.
Western Conference
Las Rozas Black Demons 55 – Gijon Mariners 3
The Black Demons ended the regular season with a resounding win over the Mariners to give them momentum heading into the playoffs. Led by Canadian quarterback Theo Landers, Las Rozas took charge from the opening whistle exploding for 42 first half points to lead 42-3 at the break. They then cruised in the second half for the easy win. Landers accounted for three touchdowns scoring one himself and throwing two touchdown passes to Jorge Garcia Vargas and Jesus Perez. Álvaro Cansinos and Jorge García-Valcárcel also scored on punt return touchdowns. Gonzalo Haro rushed for one score in the second half while Jorge García-Valcárcel caught a touchdown pass from his brother Jesus to round out the scoring.
Las Rozas will now prepare to face the number one team in the Eastern Conference, the Badalona Dracs in the semifinals.
