Finland: Kuopio Steelers land championship QB Slade Jarman for 2026 Maple League campaign

The Kuopio Steelers have made a major offseason splash, signing veteran quarterback and two-time Swedish champion Slade Jarman to lead their offense for the 2026 Maple League season.

A proven winner arrives in Kuopio
The Steelers are getting a quarterback who knows how to finish, plain and simple. The 28-year-old signal-caller from Pensacola, Florida isn’t just coming to Finland for a new experience; he’s bringing a championship pedigree after winning back-to-back titles with the Carlstad Crusaders. Over those two dominant seasons in the Swedish Superserien, the lefty threw for 3,790 yards and an incredible 49 touchdowns, proving he can be the centerpiece of a winning offense.

The ultimate European league veteran
What makes Jarman such an intriguing acquisition is his vast experience across the continent. Before his success in Sweden, he honed his skills with the Berlin Thunder in the ELF, where he threw for 2,017 yards and 21 touchdowns in just seven games, leading them to their first-ever playoff appearance. He also has prior stops with the Wroclaw Panthers in Poland and the Traun Steelsharks in Austria, making him uniquely adapted to European football.

From the Delta Devils to field general
Jarman’s unique path to Finland began in the collegiate ranks. He started his college career at Mississippi Valley State University (NCAA D1), where he recorded 1,081 throwing yards, 8 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions over two seasons. He then transferred to Fort Valley State University, where over his final three seasons he amassed 4,413 passing yards and 35 touchdowns. That strong collegiate foundation prepared him for a pro journey that even included the fan-Controlled Football League. For the Steelers, this move is about securing a seasoned and battle-tested leader who can instantly elevate their entire operation and make them a serious contender in the Maple League
