Finnish DT Chris Mulumba set to make CFL debut with Hamilton Tiger-Cats in matchup against BC Lions

It has been a long wait, but Finland’s Chris Mulumba will finally get a chance to perform on a big Canadian Football League field Friday night in Hamilton as the Tiger-Cats play host to the BC Lions.

The 6’4″, 285-pound native of Helsinki, Finland, was picked by Hamilton in the 2021 CFL Global Draft held this past April and has been waiting patiently for his opportunity. Fellow Global draftee, British linebacker David Izinyon, has already seen action for Hamilton so now it’s Mulumba’s turn.

A graduate of the University of Colorado where he spent the final two years of his collegiate career, finishing with 55 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 3.5 tackles for loss in 23 games, Mulumba will be backing up star defensive tackles Ted Laurent and Dylan Wynn.

The young Finn was actually a later comer to the sport. He grew up studying judo and is a black belt in the discipline. Mulumba was the Finnish National Judo Champion from 2009-2011. It wasn’t until he was 17 that he first put on football pads for his hometown Helsinki Roosters.

Watch Mulumba (#92) and his Tiger-Cats play the BC Lions, Nov. 6, 24:00 CET (12 midnight, 7 pm ET) on Visaic PPV.
