Germany: Dresden Monarchs sign Lehigh University QB Brad Mayes

The Dresden Monarchs of the German Football League have signed Lehigh University’s Brad Mayes as their quarterback for the 2020 season.

The 23 year old, 6’2″, 22o pound native of Tampa Bay, Florida enjoyed an outstanding career at Lehigh (NCAA Div. I, FCS, Patriot League) throwing for a total of 8,093 yards and 61 touchdowns in his four years, starting 28 of 36 games. He finished as one of the top four passers in school history in terms of single-game passing yards (1st, 524), career passing yards (3rd, 8.093), career pass completions (4th, 623), single-season pass completions (2nd, 292),  single-game TD passes (tied 1st, 6), single-season TD passes (tied 2nd, 31), career interception pct (2nd, 2.56) and career passing yards/attempt (3rd, 8.56).

Dresden head coach Ulz Däuber:

“With his play-making abilities, Brad is an excellent fit for our team. He has a strong arm and a good head for the game. He makes smart decisions and knows how to use his receivers and running backs well. Weighing 100 kg, he is also difficult to tackle, but he is still also very agile behind the offensive line,”

Dresden finished the 2019 season with a 11-5 overall record, reaching the GFL semifinals where they were eliminated by the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns.
