Germany: Marburg Mercenaries boost defense with Towson LB Robert Heyward

Germany’s Marburg Mercenaries have added one of the top defenders in Towson University history with the signing of linebacker Robert Heyward.

The 6′, 235 pound Heyward from Savannah, Georgia, ranks ninth in career tackles for the Towson Tigers with 274, was a team captain and for two years running named an All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team linebacker.

Marburg head coach Joe Tricario knows Heyward well since he coached him at Towson. He is definitely looking forward to seeing him again:

“I had the honor of coaching Rob in three of his four years with the Tigers.  He’s an outstanding young man and a very explosive linebacker who always plays with full physical effort. He was the best tackler on our team so we often used him on special teams. In  his last two seasons, he was named all-time all-time second-team linebacker and was a member of the CAA Preseason All-Conference team.”

In his senior year, 2019, he started all 12 games at linebacker, leading the Tigers in tackles with 87 and tackles for loss with 12.5, adding two sacks and two interceptions, He recorded at least six tackles in 10 out of 12 games played and 10 tackles in each of the Tigers‘ opening two wins.
