Germany: Straubing Spiders sign Florida Atlantic University QB Chris Robison

The Straubing Spiders of the German Football League (GFL) have announced the signing of Florida Atlantic University (NCAA, DI) quarterback Chris Robison for the 2023 season.

Robison began his collegiate career at Oklahoma (NCAA, DI), coming out of Horn High School, Texas as a four-star recruit. Despite joining a quarterback room that included former NFL stars Kyler Murray and Baker Mayfield, Robison’s career quickly faltered as he was dismissed for public intoxication before ever playing a game.

The 6 ‘1, 200-pound pro-style quarterback immediately bounced back however, by enrolling at FAU in August 2017, just weeks after his dismissal. But it wasn’t until 2018 that Robison would see his first piece of action. His first playing year at FAU was mediocre to put it mildly. In 12 games Robison threw for 2,540 yards and 12 touchdowns but just as many interceptions in what was supposed to be his break out year.

Not to be deterred, Robison exploded back onto the scene in 2019 for the Owls and put together an impressive season. In 14 games, Robison threw for 3,701 yards and 28 touchdowns against just six interceptions, leading FAU to an 11-3 record and their second C-USA title in three seasons.

Despite a career season in 2019 and appearing on the Maxwell Award watch list, Robison was again dismissed from the program, shortly after which he entered the transfer portal but was unsuccessful in signing elsewhere.

Robison is undoubtedly one of the highest ceiling quarterbacks to enter the GFL for some time, and if the young Texan has learned from his previous mistakes, he could make the Spiders an immediate contender for the German Bowl.
