Germany: Veteran playmaker CJ Okpalobi signs with Berlin Rebels

Versatile American running back CJ Okpalobi is returning to Berlin, signing with the Berlin Rebels for the 2026 GFL season. The 31-year-old brings extensive European experience, including a German Bowl title with Schwäbisch Hall (2018) and recent stops with Braunschweig Lions and cross-town rivals, the Berlin Adler.

Proven production across leagues
Okpalobi has consistently delivered as a dual-threat back, receiver, and return specialist. Last season with Braunschweig, he accounted for 10 total touchdowns and 245 return yards. His athletic profile (4.48 40-yard dash, 39-inch vertical) and versatility make him an immediate impact player for the Rebels‘ offense and special teams.

Familiar territory with new motivation
Having played for Berlin Adler in 2023, Okpalobi already knows the city and fanbase. He stated he believes he can “bring great value to the organization, both on and off the field.” Head coach Douglas Fryer praised the addition of “a talented player that is a threat at multiple positions anytime he touches the ball.” This signing provides the Rebels with a proven playmaker as they push for GFL North contention.
