Helsinki Wolverines add McNeese State RB D’Angelo Durham for 2026

The Helsinki Wolverines have made a major addition to their backfield, signing former McNeese State standout running back D’Angelo Durham for the 2026 Maple League season.

Proven FBS-level talent
Durham brings a Division I pedigree to Helsinki, having competed at NCAA Division I‘s McNeese State University in Louisiana. After transferring ahead of the 2022 season, the 6-1, 205 pound running back made a strong initial impact with the Cowboys before his debut campaign was unfortunately cut short by injury. He successfully returned to the field for the 2024 season, reclaiming his role as his team’s leading running back and demonstrating the talent that made him a standout at the FBS level.

Collegiate success at Savannah State
Before his time at McNeese State, Durham began his collegiate career at Savannah State University (NCAA DII). He made an immediate impact as a freshman, rushing for over a 1,000 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns to quickly establish himself as his team’s primary offensive weapon.

A versatile weapon for the Wolverines
The Wolverines are getting more than just a traditional ball carrier. The 26-year-old native of Augusta, Georgia is known for his well-rounded skill set. He is a capable receiver out of the backfield, a tough runner between the tackles, and an effective blocker. This versatility gives the Helsinki offense a dynamic new weapon and aligns perfectly with the team’s new philosophy.

Building a ground-and-pound identity
Wolverines head coach J-P Kuusisto emphasized a strategic shift, stating the offense will be “based on strong running.” The signing of Durham directly supports that vision. Coach Kuusisto noted that Durham’s style of play is “exactly what we are looking for to strengthen our offense,” signaling a clear commitment to a powerful, run-first identity in Helsinki.
