Hungary’s Miskolc Steelers sign AJ Brown as HC

The Miskolc Steelers who play in Hungary’s Division 1, have signed AJ Brown (Friends University) to be their next head coach.

The 30-year-old Brown from Hallettsville, Texas is one of the most well traveled coaches/players in Europe and since 2016 he has played/coached for nine different clubs in seven different countries.

Although he signed in 2020 with the Szombathely Crushers in Hungary’s second division, the season was canceled due to the pandemic. In 2019, playing linebacker and serving as defensive coordinator, he helped the Stralsund Pikes (German 5th division) to a 7-3 record. Earlier in the same season, he took over as head coach and defensive coordinator of the Cairo Warriors in the Egyptian National Football League. He pulled double duty in 2018 as well acting as assistant head coach for the Paris Mousquetaires (French Division 2) and then taking on the role of defensive coordinator for the Sombor Celtis in Serbia’s 2nd division.

In 2017, he served as head coach and defensive coordinator of the Defenders FA in Brazil’s second division and prior to that he was head coach of Germany’s Hamburg Heat. He coached with Portugal’s Parades Lumberjacks in 2016/2017. He spent the 2014 and 2015 seasons playing and coaching with Serbia’s Pozarevac Stallions and the Pozarevac Stallions in Brazil. Other stops along the way include the Slupsk Griffons in Poland’s Division 2 and Turkey’s Mersin Mustangs.

The Steelers will kick off their 2021 season on April 10.
