Japan: Fujitsu Frontiers chase top spot against All Mitsubishi Lions
The Fujitsu Frontiers (6-1) will look to keep the pressure on at the top of the X League Premier standings when they face the All Mitsubishi Lions (2-3) Sunday at Fujitsu Stadium Kawasaki.
Fujitsu enters Round 8 in second place and brings the league’s highest-scoring offense into the matchup, averaging 28.7 points per game. The Lions sit ninth but have been far more competitive than their record might suggest, averaging 23.8 points while allowing 21.
Kickoff is set for 14:00 local time.
Takagi powering Frontiers attack
Quarterback Tsubasa Takagi leads the league with 1,370 passing yards, helping the Frontiers average an X League-best 212.7 yards through the air.
Fujitsu also has balance on the ground. Koki Miyake has rushed for 350 yards, second in the league, while the Frontiers average 106 yards per game as a team.
The challenge for All Mitsubishi will be getting Takagi uncomfortable. Taijh Alston has recorded four sacks, third-best in the league, and could be crucial if the Lions are to disrupt Fujitsu’s rhythm.
Lions need Irons at his best
Quarterback DeMarcus Irons Jr. has thrown for 840 yards for All Mitsubishi, while Isaiah Malcome has 311 receiving yards.
The Lions also average a healthy 114.4 yards rushing per game, giving them an opportunity to control possession rather than becoming trapped in a shootout with the league’s most productive offense.
History favors Fujitsu
The recent series has belonged overwhelmingly to the Frontiers. Fujitsu has won the last five meetings, including a 59-0 victory in 2024.
Still, All Mitsubishi owns a plus-three turnover differential and allows opponents to convert only 32.6% of their third downs.
If the Lions can pressure Takagi, run the football and create turnovers, they have a chance to make this uncomfortable. Otherwise, Fujitsu’s offensive balance could make for another long afternoon.
