After trailing 12-2 early in the third quarter, the Dukes scored 24 unanswered points to claim a decisive victory and demonstrate their resilience on the road.
Early defensive struggle
The first half belonged to the hometown Riga Bears, who established control with a strong defensive performance that limited the Dukes’ offensive opportunities. Riga quarterback Emils Kaufmanis contributed both through the air and on the ground, connecting with receiver Kristofers Emils Racko for a touchdown while adding another score on a 10-yard scramble. The Bears’ defense further stifled the Kaunas attack with interceptions from Kristofers Emils Racko and Aleksandrs Klesmans, creating a challenging 6-2 deficit for the visitors at halftime that grew to 12-2 early in the third quarter.
Defensive adjustments fuel comeback
The Kaunas Dukes’ comeback began with crucial defensive adjustments that completely neutralized the Bears’ offensive attack. After surrendering early second-half points, the Dukes’ defense imposed its will, shutting down Riga’s running game and preventing any further scoring while creating opportunities for the offense to find its rhythm. This defensive stand provided the foundation for the dramatic turnaround, allowing the Kaunas offense to establish field position and control the game’s tempo.
Offensive explosion seals victory
The Dukes’ offense capitalized on the defensive performance with a powerful and methodical rushing attack that produced 24 unanswered points. Quarterback Artūras Mockus led the charge with both a rushing and passing touchdown, while running back Marijus Nickus added another score on the ground. Tight end Martynas Siriunaitis contributed to the scoring outburst with a receiving touchdown, completing the comprehensive offensive effort that overwhelmed the Bears’ defense and secured the impressive comeback victory for the Kaunas Dukes.
