Italy: Legnano Frogs hold off Ferrara Aquile in thrilling 30-29 victory

In a nail-biter at Mari Stadium in Legnano, the Legnano Frogs (3-0) edged the Ferrara Aquile (2-2)  30-29 in the Italian Football League’s Sunday clash. This hard-fought win showcased the Frogs’ grit and determination, extending their winning streak and keeping their perfect record intact.

First quarter sees turnovers
The game opened with both teams feeling the pressure, resulting in a pair of interceptions. The Frogs’ first drive ended abruptly when Ferrara’s Zack Wright picked off a pass, giving the Aquile a golden opportunity. They capitalized quickly, with Gaspari scoring on a 5-yard run and Antochi converting the extra point to put Ferrara up 7-0.

Frogs respond in the second quarter
The Frogs responded in the second quarter, quarterback Josh Taylor found Niccolò Pulsinelli in the end zone for a touchdown, tying the game at 7-7. Just moments later, Matteo Rai caught another pass from Taylor, and Carlo Tenerini’s successful extra point gave the Frogs a 14-7 lead heading into halftime.

Key plays shift momentum
After the break, Luke Caliendo scored the Frogs’ third touchdown, pushing their lead to 21-7. Ferrara fought back with a touchdown from Fabro, but a crucial blocked extra point turned the tide. Saad Ali scooped up the loose ball and sprinted it back for a defensive score, extending Legnano’s lead to 23-13.

Aquile rally but fall short
In the fourth quarter, the Frogs added another touchdown from Matteo Mozzanica, making it 30-13. However, the Aquile weren’t done yet. They scored on two consecutive offensive series, starting with Zack Wright finding the end zone and Pasquotto converting the two-point attempt to make it 30-21. Then, Wright connected with Ryan Kraft for a 22-yard touchdown, and Kraft himself scored the two-point conversion, narrowing the gap to 30-29. With time running out, Ferrara pushed for the win but couldn’t convert, sealing the Frogs’ narrow victory.
