The Central European Football League open the Championship series with a clash between Danish defending champions, the Copenhagen Towers and Sweden’s current title holders, the Örebro Black Knights.
For Copenhagen, this is the first game of the year while the Black Knights have already played three games in the Swedish Superserien having won one and lost two.
These two teams have met just once before, in 2014 in Champions League play with Örebro coming out on top, 30-20 in a game also played in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen will feature a new quarterback in Joshua Greaves from the University of Nottingham in England who previously played at Occidental College (NCAA Div. III) in California where he threw for 3,546 yards and 25 touchdowns in his three seasons. Receiver Mike Williams has returned to the Danish squad for a third season. Williams was a key in the Towers 2021 Danish championship.

For the Black Knights, quarterback Trevor Vasey is the key. The 6’7″ signal caller has thrown for 598 yards and seven touchdowns in the three games. Running back Tim Göransson has carried the ball 41 times for 145 yards and scored the winning touchdown in last week’s important win over the Carlstad Crusaders. Another weapon for Vasey is wide receiver Jesper Lindeus who had six catches for 62 yards last week along with two touchdowns. His brother Johannes Lindeus is always a threat and the Team Sweden wideout has 258 yards receiving and two touchdowns on 10 catches so far this year. He is a special threat on deep balls.
This game is a tossup. Copenhagen has the homefield advantage, but the Black Knights have already played three games and have begun to find a rhythm following last week’s big win over the Carlstad Crusaders.
