LIVESTREAM AFLE: Berlin Thunder @ Rhein Fire, June 21, 17:10 CET (5:10 pm, 11:10 am ET)

The American Football League Europe schedule delivers a key Week 5 matchup as Rhein Fire (2-1) host the Berlin Thunder (2-2), with both teams looking to strengthen their position in the playoff race after dramatically different results a week ago.

Rhein Fire enter the contest riding the momentum of a dominant 35-0 shutout victory over the Paris Lights, while Berlin arrives in Duisburg hoping to rebound from a difficult 50-12 loss to the Wroclaw Panthers.

Fire finding their rhythm

After a disappointing performance the week before, Rhein Fire responded exactly the way a contender should.

Quarterback Kenji Bahar guided an offense that steadily took control against Paris, while Jonathan Scott delivered two rushing touchdowns and Kaylon Geiger Sr. added a touchdown reception. Giacomo Di Pauli also found the end zone as the offense produced 35 unanswered points.

Just as impressive was the defense. Christian Matthew’s early interception helped swing momentum, and the unit never allowed the Lights to find any consistency. The shutout pushed Fire into first place in the North/West Division and restored confidence heading into a critical stretch of the season.

Thunder searching for answers

The Thunder head into this game looking to erase memories of a difficult afternoon in Wroclaw.

Quarterback Jakeb Sullivan and receiver Jon Cole have been among the most productive combinations in the league this season, but the Panthers defense never allowed Berlin to establish any rhythm. Penalties, sacks, and missed opportunities turned what was expected to be a marquee matchup into a one-sided result.

The challenge now is responding against another defense that played exceptionally well last week.

Battle could be won in the trenches

One of the most important matchups on Saturday will be Berlin’s offensive line against the aggressive Rhein Fire defense.

The Thunder struggled with protection issues against Wroclaw, while Fire generated pressure throughout their shutout win over Paris. If Sullivan is given time, he has shown he can move the ball against anyone in the league.

Playoff implications already growing

With both teams chasing postseason positioning, this game carries significant early-season importance.

A win for Rhein Fire would further strengthen their hold on first place in the division. A victory for the Berlin Thunder would erase last week’s disappointment and put them right back among the league’s leading contenders.
