The London Warriors (1-3) host the unbeaten Vienna Vikings (4-0) this weekend in an American Football League Europe matchup that pits one of the league’s hottest teams against a London squad coming off the biggest win in franchise history. While the Vikings arrive with a perfect record and championship aspirations, the Warriors finally have momentum after breaking through with their first-ever AFLE victory.

Warriors finding their footing

The London Warriors looked like a different team in their 51-26 win over the Firenze Red Lions. Quarterback Karé Lyles directed a balanced and efficient offense that consistently moved the chains and finished drives.

Running back Andy Owusu continued to be a key part of the attack, scoring two touchdowns, while Kevin Laryea remained one of the most dangerous weapons on the roster, finishing just shy of 100 receiving yards and adding a touchdown.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for London was the overall balance of the offense. Rather than relying on one player, the Warriors spread the ball around and controlled the pace of the game. They will need another complete performance against a much tougher opponent this week.

Vienna firing on all cylinders

The Vienna Vikings have been one of the league’s most complete teams through four games. Last week they rolled past the Alpine Rams 47-20 behind another outstanding performance from quarterback Ben Holmes.

Holmes completed 25 of 36 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns while adding a rushing score. His connection with tight ends Florian Bierbaumer and Bernhard Seikovits has become one of the most dangerous combinations in the league. The pair combined for four touchdown receptions against the Rams.

The Vikings also continue to get production from multiple areas, with Karri Pajarinen contributing on the ground and a defense that consistently limits opponents’ opportunities.

Key matchup

The biggest challenge for London will be slowing Holmes and the Vienna passing attack. If the Warriors can pressure the quarterback and avoid allowing explosive plays to Bierbaumer and Seikovits, they can keep the game competitive.

What to watch

Confidence versus consistency. The Warriors finally have a breakthrough win behind them, while the Vikings are chasing a fifth straight victory. If Lyles, Owusu and Laryea can keep pace offensively, London has a chance to test one of the AFLE’s top teams. However, Vienna’s depth, balance and experience make the visitors the clear favorites entering Week 5.
