The 6-4 Projekt Spielberg Graz Giants will play host to the 5-5 Ljubljana Silverhawks in the wild card playoff round in the Austrian Football League, Sunday, July 1 at Stadion Eggenberg in Graz, Austria.

The two teams met once during the regular season with Graz coming out on top, 35-27.

Last year, Graz lost in the wild card playoffs in a close game against the Danube Dragons. The Silverhawks reached the semifinals in 2017 after defeating the Modling Rangers in the wild card round.

This game could be decided in the air. The Silverhawks enter with the best passing offense in Austria. Zach Cavanaugh finished as the passing yardage leader among all quarterbacks in the Austrian Football League with 3,018 yards and 30 TDs.  His top receiver, Matic Tomse, also wound up in top spot in receiving yardage with 1,121 yards and a league-best 14 TD receptions. Teammate Eugen Sumic wound up 4th with 758 yards.

In other words, the Giants pass defense will be put to the test.

Graz quarterback Robert Gallik, who played in eight games for the Giants, threw for 2,132 yards and 20 touchdowns and was a key improvement after joining the team.. Giants running back  Matthias Kiegerl wound up 2nd overall in rushing with 864 yards and 12 TDs accounting for two thirds of the Giants 1,332 team rushing yards.

Giants LB Thomas Schnurrer wound up 2nd in the Austrian Football League in tackles with 57.5 tackles while Ljubljana LB Patrick Kenney was 3rd, also with 57.5 tackles.

The winner of this game will move on to face either the Swarco Raiders or Dacia Vienna Vikings in the semifinals.
