LIVESTREAM CFL: Edmonton Elks @ Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Oct. 10, 01:00 CET (1 am, 7 pm Oct. 9 ET)
HAMILTON — The Edmonton Elks and Hamilton Tiger-Cats meet for the second time in three weeks when they kick off Mobil Thanksgiving Weekend on Friday Night Football.
Edmonton is coming off a bye after edging Hamilton in the first matchup at Commonwealth Stadium, 37-35 in overtime.
The Ticats rebounded from that loss with a 34-16 victory over Ottawa last week.
An Edmonton win or a Saskatchewan loss, the Edmonton Elks will earn the right to host a playoff game. An Edmonton win and a BC loss means the Elks will clinch first place in the division and will host the Western Final on November 7.
Here’s three keys to victory for both teams ahead of Friday’s 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff, which can be watched on TSN and RDS2 in Canada, as well as on CFL+ in the U.S. and internationally.

EDMONTON ELKS
1. MORE MAJORS, PLEASE
The Elks scored 37 points with just one touchdown in Week 17 versus Hamilton thanks to kicker Vincent Blanchard going nine-for-nine on field goal attempts. The kicking game is always important, but quarterback Cody Fajardo and running back Justin Rankin need to lead the way into the end zone this time around.
2. AUSTIN MACK ATTACK
Receiver Austin Mack is another weapon who should have something to say about putting up points. It’s the time of year when teams’ stars need to be just that, and Mack will try to find space downfield against a Ticats’ pass defence that sits at the top of the league in average passing yards allowed with 276.1. The Elks wideout put up 62 yards in the first meeting.
3. SHUNDERRICK POWELL PROVIDING A DIFFERENT LOOK
Running back ShunDerrick Powell can draw some of the focus away from Justin Rankin. The Elks rookie back found holes in the first matchup, carrying five times for 52 yards, while Rankin rushed for 74 yards on 11 carries. Giving the Ticats’ front different looks and getting Powell involved will help open up space on the ground.
HAMILTON TIGER-CATS
2. KENNY LAWLER
Hamilton receiver Kenny Lawler finally had the big game he was searching for last week with 132 yards and two touchdowns. If Lawler has found his stride, the Elks may struggle to keep him in check as they did in Week 17 when he had 50 yards.
2. ALL ABOUT MOMENTUM
For Hamilton, the focus has shifted to how their play this year can propel them into 2027. Defensively, holding Edmonton to one touchdown and the REDBLACKS to 16 points is a positive trend they will try to maintain against an Elks team looking for a breakout performance. Downfield, defensive backs Destin Talbert and Quavian White have to keep tabs on Mack and the receiving corps.
3. HARRISON FROST FINDING CONSISTENCY
Over his last four games, Ticats’ quarterback Harrison Frost has thrown for 342, 214, 330 and 218 yards. Consistency is key at the quarterback position, and Frost will look to put together a complete performance after throwing for 214 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 17.
NEED TO KNOW:
- Edmonton has played the most games decided by four or fewer points (5-1).
- The Elks are looking to complete a two-game series sweep against Hamilton for the first time since 2017.
- Cody Fajardo is 7-3 against Hamilton. He’s set new career highs in passing yards (4,439) and touchdown passes (23).
- In his last two games, Larry Rountree III has averaged 109.5 rushing yards, 16 carries and 6.8 yards per rush.
- Harrison Frost is 0-1 against Edmonton.
