LIVESTREAM Germany PPV: Potsdam Royals @ Düsseldorf Panther, Aug. 8, 16:00 CET (4 pm, 10 am ET)

The Düsseldorf Panther (3-5) return home Saturday to face the Potsdam Royals (7-1) in a German Football League matchup that gives the Panther another chance to test themselves against one of the GFL North’s championship contenders.

Düsseldorf sits fourth in the division and remains in the playoff race, while defending champion Potsdam is second behind the unbeaten Dresden Monarchs.

Düsseldorf coming off strong showing

The Panther may have lost 30-20 in Dresden last weekend, but they gave the league leaders considerably more trouble than the final score suggests.

After falling behind 14-0, Düsseldorf fought back behind quarterback Dawson Herl and took a 20-17 lead in the third quarter. Herl threw three touchdown passes, including two to James Okike, before the Monarchs regained control.

That performance gives the Panther something to build on as they return to Benrath Stadium.

There is also recent history working in their favor. Düsseldorf produced one of the biggest upsets of the 2025 GFL season when it went to Potsdam and beat the Royals 24-7, handing the eventual champions their only regular-season loss.

Potsdam returns with new quarterback

The Royals return after two weekends off with a major change at quarterback.

Swiss newcomer Bay Harvey takes over following Xeaiver Bullock’s departure for the Elecom Kobe Finies in Japan. Harvey finished his career at Johns Hopkins University with 7,822 passing yards and 81 touchdowns while rushing for another 1,556 yards and 28 scores. He also participated in the Washington Commanders’ rookie minicamp this spring.

His first GFL appearance comes against a Düsseldorf team that has already shown it can challenge the North’s best.

Panther face another major test

While Potsdam’s new quarterback will draw attention, the Royals’ defense has been a major reason for their 7-1 record. They have surrendered only 79 points through eight games, while the offense has scored 354.

For Düsseldorf, protecting the football and finishing drives will be essential against a team that offers little margin for error.

The Panther pushed Dresden deep into the fourth quarter last weekend. Now they get another opportunity to shake up the GFL North playoff race against the defending champions.
