The German Football League features one of its premier South Division matchups on Saturday as the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns (5-0) host the Ravensburg Razorbacks (3-2) at OPTIMA Sportpark. Last season’s South Division champions visit the current league leaders in a game that could have a major impact on the playoff race. With temperatures expected to remain extremely high, kickoff has been moved back one hour to 5:00 p.m.

Battle for South supremacy

This is a matchup between two programs that have defined the top of the GFL South over the past two seasons. The Ravensburg Razorbacks broke Schwäbisch Hall’s long run of division titles in 2025, but the Unicorns have reclaimed first place this year with five straight victories.

Head coach Felix Brenner knows exactly what his team is facing.

“As last year’s southern champions, the Razorbacks are currently exactly where we want to be,” he said.

Experience on both sidelines

Despite their 3-2 record, the Razorbacks remain one of the league’s most dangerous teams. Brenner pointed to the continuity of the roster as one of their biggest strengths, particularly quarterback Broghean McGovern, who continues to lead the offense with poise and playmaking ability.

Defensively, Ben Rashid remains one of the premier pass rushers in the GFL and will test the Unicorns’ offensive line throughout the afternoon.

On the other side, Schwäbisch Hall counters with quarterback Lars Heidrich and an offense capable of attacking defenses through both the air and on the ground. Running back Kelley Joiner gives the Unicorns another weapon that forces opposing defenses to stay balanced.

Numbers point to a close contest

While the Unicorns lead the GFL by averaging 49.4 points per game, the Razorbacks are scoring an impressive 35.0. Both teams have thrown 12 touchdown passes this season, while Schwäbisch Hall has added 14 rushing touchdowns compared to 10 for Ravensburg.

The defensive numbers are just as close. The Razorbacks are allowing 20.4 points per game, slightly better than the Unicorns’ 21.6 average. Schwäbisch Hall has recorded 13 sacks this season, while Ravensburg has 12.

With two balanced teams, experienced quarterbacks and plenty at stake in the South Division race, Saturday’s showdown promises to be one of the best games on the GFL schedule this season.
