On Sunday May 19th, the Allgäu Comets (0-1) will host the Ravensburg Razorbacks (0-0) in a German Football League South matchup.

After falling just short to Schwäbisch Hall (58-57) in their season opener, the Comets will look to bounce back and get their first win of the year. For the Razorbacks, this will be their first contest of the 2024 GFL season.

Last week, Allgäu had an all-time battle against the Unicorns. However, they fell short by one point after Schwäbisch Hall scored and converted the two-point conversion with 22 seconds left in the game, losing 58-57 on the road.

Even after the crushing last second defeat, there are still plenty of things the Comets should be excited about, starting with first year quarterback Xeavier Bullock. In his first game, Bullock proved he belonged as the signal caller for one of the GFL’s top offenses, as he threw for 575 yards and five touchdowns. Bullock also showed off his dual threat ability with 95 yards and two more scores on the ground. While a win against the Unicorns would have been a great way to start the year, Bullock and the Comets are still a dangerous team to be on the lookout for.

On the other side we have the visiting Ravensburg Razorbacks who will be playing their first game of the season. The Razorbacks finished at the bottom of the GFL South with a 2-10 record in 2023. Led by head coach John Gilligan, the Razorbacks will look to start off the season right with a road victory against the Comets.

In the offseason, Ravensburg looked to try and fix its offensive woes by going out into free agency and signing two quarterbacks for the season. The Razorbacks welcomed Australian Jack Flaherty and American Broghean McGovern. The assumption is the 25 year old McGovern will be the lead shot caller, but the 19 year old Flaherty will be a formidable backup if given the chance to play.

Both teams will be looking to find a win this weekend, so keep an eye out for an electric GFL South matchup in Kempten on Sunday.
